I think I should’ve changed the topic to self contained apartment hunting because it is not like I was searching for a mansion or so!
Anyways, you guys know I currently did my Nysc orientation camp in akwa ibom but if you are a first timer on my blog and you don’t know you can read all about my experience here, here……. So after orientation camp, comes finding out our individual place of primary assignment which is invariably where we are going to work for the one year of service.
After the whole work place shenanigans is done and dusted, then comes the looking for apartments, house, room, flat etc(which ever suites the individual corpers taste). The house hunting palava(yes I said it) is not from here o!. It is the worst experience ever and I didn’t suffer as much as other people o.
To find available houses, you have to get in contact with house agents. Some people use several house agents because the hustle is real!!!. Let me now talk about this house agents, it’s like they don’t have the fear of God at all at all. This agents will comfortably make you walk and walk to houses they know won’t suite their enemies. Note that we are paying for their transportation and sometimes their meals if the house hunting takes the whole day(im like why, when I’m still going to pay you agent fee why all this… Is it really necessary though).
After settling all the bills 💴💶with the agents (note that you haven’t found a house yet o), the agents then take you to see a numerous number of houses that they have overhyped and over exaggerated it’s worth, one will practically be bursting with excitement to see the house and when you see the house, disappointment is the feeling. Now imagine this experience happening over and over again. I have never been so frustrated in my life.
I had a vision for the apartment I wanted for myself (who doesn’t right?) and then I don’t see anything remotely close to it. Although I think pinterest has spoilt me and made me have some serious unrealistic house goals. Well I eventually got an apartment, the furnishing of this apartment is another ball game of its own.
Akwa ibom is not a bad place at all, I love the serenity of the environment and I plan to enjoy my service year. It feels so surreal, I have an apartment🏢 y’all😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
The point of this post is just to let you guys know that house hunting in Nigeria is not a joke, it’s not an enjoyable experience so one should brace up when going house hunting.
I would love to hear your house hunting stories, I know I didn’t suffer as much as most people I know though😊.
