Today I am going to talk about the methods I use to read, how I like them and how they have benefitted me.
I’ve come to realise that reading a fictional book and reading self help/inspirational books are two different things entirely.
Also, reading novels/books for fun and reading for reviews have different approaches.
If you are an avid reader of my blog (always wanted to say that), you’ll notice that I’m getting a handle on my Book review methods. Before, I use to just read the book and later write the review like I’m telling a story (usually tend to forget the very important parts). Lately, I have been adapting the method of writing down the important parts and quotes in the book that I’ll like to discuss on. This method is also the method used when reading self-help /inspirational books, it is a very useful method because you have the write ups you can go back to where things are not clear.
Another method of reading books is skimming, this entails not reading all the sentences in a page and going to the next. This method is effective but you lose a lot of detail even though the main part of the story is known. I use this method when I’m not feeling the book and I want to just get it over with (whoelse feels this way?).
I use the writing down method for reading my school books also, the writing down is a little more detailed (I basically rewrite my notes over and over again when reading for school… Am I glad that’s over).
I guess these are all the methods I use, I am pretty sure there are other effective methods of reading books.
Which methods do you like to use? Which do you think is the most effective?
